Mahomet Area Prosperity Planning 2008 was a three-day, 16-hour strategic planning event facilitated by Sikich LLP, a professional services firm based in Aurora, Ill. The event, which took place Jan. 24 through Jan. 26, 2008, brought approximately 60 community stakeholders together to represent seven segments of the community: retirees, land development, quality of life, residents, businesses, public agencies and education. These community stakeholders make up the Mahomet area's new Strategic Planning Committee. The Strategic Planning Committee was sought to develop a vision of the greater Mahomet area, as well as specific plans to guide agencies in the future. During MAPP, the committee addressed where Mahomet's been, where it is today, where it wants to be and how to get there. In order to achieve goals established during MAPP, members of the Strategic Planning Committee formed additional action committees. The following committees were formed: a Joint Venture Committee, a Beautification Committee, a Parks and Recreation Committee, a New Community Center Committee, a Marketing Committee, a School District Strategic Planning Committee, and a Bike Path and River Walk Committee. An Economic Advisory Committee that was already in place will now work to become a not-for-profit Economic Development Corporation, with Mayor Deb Braunig heading up the effort. A MAPP Steering Committee will help keep the action committees accountable by hosting regular meetings with the chairs of each action committee. The steering committee will also keep the community informed about the action committees’ efforts by regularly presenting to public agencies and by publishing information on this Web site. We welcome members of the community to provide input and to get involved in the process. Please feel free to contact us about joining an action committee today. Help make Mahomet the best that it can be!
